The Fayetteville Fire Department prides itself on being able to respond at any time to any type of emergency as expertly trained professionals. To do this, an intense regimen of training is required to be completed by all emergency response personnel followed by regular refresher training.
The Fayetteville Fire Department's Fire Training Center is a six-story building that includes over 7,000 square feet of working floor space. The facility provides a safe and secure environment for firefighters from the entire region to practice a range of skills, including confined space operations, forcible entry, rope rescue, high rise firefighting, and roof ventilation. The facility is equipped with three separate Class A burn rooms and a flashover simulator. About 14 acres was allocated to the Fire Department for the development of dedicated training grounds in 2015. Infrastructure improvements began the following year, and were completed in April 2017.The main facility was funded with $600,000 in grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant program and the Department of Homeland Security. The city contributed 10 percent in matching funds.
The Division of Training is led by Battalion Chief Mauro Campos and Captain Joseph Shirley. Together they share many responsibilities with the implementation and delivery of a highly dynamic and progressive training division.
These responsibilities are to coordinate the fire department involvement in recruitment and promotional processes, ensure that all personnel comply with local, state, and federal mandates for continuing education requirements, coordinate advanced and specialized training for the various rescue and emergency response disciplines, and interface with other agencies to assist with training issues related to coordinated response.
