Candidate Requirements
       You must  provide proof that you possess one of the following prior to applying:


  1.  Current certification as an Emergency Medical Technician either through the State of Arkansas Department of Health or through the National   Emergency Medical Technician Registry Program, or 
  2. Medical certification or license at a higher level (paramedic, nurse, etc.), or
  3. 12 college credit hours in core curriculum courses (English, Math, Science, Communications, Speech, Journalism or Foreign Language)
  4. Firefighter I and Firefighter II certification through International Fire Service Accreditation Congress
    (IFSAC), or
  5. Accredited Fire Academy certification (NFPA, Pro-Board, etc.), or
  6. A minimum of two years honorable service in the US Armed Forces including National Guard.
In order for your application to be accepted, you must include electronic copies of the following required documents:
  1. Birth Certificate or proof of citizenship
  2. GED or High School or College Diploma
  3. Current Driver’s License
  4. DD-214 for applicants with prior military experience
By completing the application process outlined above, you have completed the City of Fayetteville’s employment application for Firefighter. You must also take and pass an entry-level:

  1. Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)
  2. National Testing Network (NTN) FireTEAM Test
         *Both must be current at time of application deadline

Application Process


  
Following the application deadline, the Fire Department will complete a review of the employment applications and the required documentation to ensure candidates meet all requirements. 
Within four weeks of the application deadline, candidates who are eligible to continue in the process will be contacted by the Fire Department. At this stage, candidates must have updated any documents that have expired dates (Drivers License, EMT card).  They also will be required to provide current, valid proof of passing the CPAT. Only a CPAT licensed by the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) and the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) will be accepted.
Eligible candidates will be scheduled for the final phase of the application process, consisting of a panel interview with members of the Fire Department, and a panel interview with the Civil Service Commission.

DEADLINE FOR 2020 APPLICATIONS ENDED ON MAY 11, 2020.
The Department is currently accepting applications for the hiring period in  2021.  Hiring usually takes place in June/July of each year.
